With over 20 years experience in breeding and training service dogs, you will not find an American Staffordshire Terrier breeder that comprehensively understands inherited drives and traits more than Redboys Amstaffs.
We are very meticulous in our breeding program, so that our combinations achieve the best result in both working conformation and balanced drives. We tightly line-breed so that our bloodline will have the highest possible percentage of passing these desirable traits onto their offspring. We strive to produce very hard and environmental sound puppies, that are stringently temperament tested before they leave our premises.
Almost all modern-day American Staffordshire Terriers are very soft in character, lacking courage and hardness. They are also very low in drive and have a weak nerve threshold. Technically, they should not be bred from. But ill-informed breeders do not know how to correctly temperament test their litters.
The root cause of this predicament with regards to working breeds, is conformation dog shows. This ego infested environment produce grey hounds that can’t race, hunting dogs that can’t hunt and working dogs that have no concept of work. Very simply, almost all conformation dog show judges have no idea what they are looking at when it comes to performance bred canines.
American Staffordshire Terriers are conformation bred American Pit bull Terriers. Genetically they are the same breed of canine, but with their working ability bred out. Thank God that most American Staffordshire Terrier breeders do not know how to line-breed correctly, otherwise they would have selectively bred all the working ability out of this breed.
The extended breed standard of the American Staffordshire Terrier which was produced by the Staffordshire Terrier Club of America Inc. clearly states that “proper temperament” is paramount in producing a complete American Staffordshire Terrier.
"In general, proper temperament is the most important quality, followed by proper physical structure, and the soundness that must accompany it."
Producing a Family Bloodline
If a breeder desires to progressively move forward, whilst still preserving the genotype (internally coded, inheritable information) and phenotype (outward, physical manifestation) within their bloodline, they must line-breed not out-cross. Out-crossing only dilutes desirable traits and does nothing to rectify the faults within a particular bloodline. It only masks the faults, which will reoccur in future generations.
When a breeder inbreeds (father to daughter, son to mother or brother to sister) they are essentially compounding on the good and bad traits to expose them. After several generations of inbreeding, the breeder will begin to produce a family bloodline. This is the only proven method of re-producing desirable traits, with enough concentration to have a sufficient effect on future generations. The major benefit of inbreeding is that it exposes the undesirable traits within that particular bloodline. This enables the breeder to eradicate those undesirable traits from that bloodline through prudent culling.
By culling the offspring that have inherited the undesirable traits and only breeding from the most balanced females, the breeder will eventually remove the undesirable traits from their bloodline. Once they are removed, they will not remain dormant to reappear, generation after generation. This is a very simple explanation on how to reproduce desirable traits within the mothers-line of a bloodline.
"Predominantly focus on the females within your bloodline, as the females carry XX chromosomes. Males carry XY chromosomes. Y's are only passed from father to son and are never passed from father to daughter. Females on the other hand, receive their father's one X and one of their mother's two X's."
Have a look at this pedigree and DNA comparison. This is how you must breed in order to produce a family bloodline.
All our performance bred litters come with a full 2 year replacement guarantee, that covers both structural and genetic defects and also guarantees their working ability. In addition, they will be rigorously temperament tested and evaluated before they leave our premises. If you are not satisfied, simply return it to our location (at your expense) and it will be replaced with another pup from our next available litter.
No other American Staffordshire Terrier breeder has the experience or bloodlines to offer such a guarantee.
